Firefighters Awarded For Bravery

                          Summary

A Carterton Volunteer Fire Brigade Chief and a Masterton Brigade Member have been honoured for their bravery and strength for their actions surrounding the 2012 Carterton Hot Air Balloon Crash. The awards were presented in a ceremony. They both provided assistance in the crash scene, which 11 people died. The honouring of their bravery at a attended by Internal Affairs Minister Peter Dunne is hoping to bring closure to both the men their, families and members of the brigade.

I think that the two men are very brave. I think that they deserve their awards because I have never heard anyone do something as brave like that.

Lees Disney princess wish granted

Summary

Royal entrance Lee Tangiwai- Thompson celebrated her 16th birthday in true disney style. Make a wish foundation helped transform her uncles house into a disney world land. The day was a nice bit of happy magic for Lee. They granted wishes to about 250 children in New Zealand.

Opinion

I think that Lee had a very amazing birthday. I think that she was very lucky to have a birthday in disney style.

Are You Taller A 5 year old?

Summary

There is a 5 year old kid Karan Singh is already 5 feet , 7 inches tall. When Karan was born he weighed 15.4 pounds so that is about double the size of an average baby. He was even 4 inches longer than an average baby.

Opinion

I think that this boy is incredible. I think when he grows up he might be the tallest person on earth.

All Blacks vs Wales

Summary

Richie McCaw has set another record becoming the first player to captain New Zealand 100 times. McCaw led New Zealand to a 34-16 win against Wales in Cardiff. The people who got the tries for the All Blacks was Julian Savea, Beauden Barrett and Kieran Reid.

Opinion

I think that the All Blacks have done so well beating Wales 34-16. I think that Wales did so well too. I think if they play again it might be a close match.

World Running Out Of Chocolate

Summary

According to New Zealand Company Whittakers, the world faces a temporary shortage in chocolate. The two biggest chocolate makers in the world, Mars and Barry Callebaut, claim that farmers are producing less cocoa than what the world wants. The reason is because the weather is going to be so dry.

Opinion

I think that it will be sad for those of us who really love their chocolate. I think that nearly everyone is going to miss their chocolate. I think that everyone should start buying lots of chocolate now before it runs out.

The Worlds Shortest And Tallest Man Meet For The First Time

Summary

The tallest man in the world and the shortest man in the world met for the first time in London for the 10th annual Guinness World Records Day. Sultan the worlds tallest man is 31 years old and he became the world's tallest living man in 2009. Chandra the worlds shortest man is 74 and became the world’s shortest living man in 2012. The tallest and the shortest living man said that it was very amazing for them to meet each other. Many people from all over the country was at the Guinness World Records event.

Opinion

I think that it is cool for the shortest and tallest man to meet each other. I bet that they were very surprised when they saw each other. I would be.

Kiwis win Four Nations

Summary

The Kiwis have won the 2014 Four Nation Rugby League Championships. The Kiwis beat Kangaroos 4 tries to 3 in the finals. Manu Vatuvei scored twice while Jason Nightingale and Shaun Johnson were the another try scores for the kiwis. This means that this is the first time since 1953 that the Kiwis have beaten the Kangaroos twice in a row.

Opinion

I think that the Kiwis did very well to win the Four Nations. I think that it is very good that they have beaten the Kangaroos twice in a row. WELL DONE KIWIS!

Golf Club breaks Guinness World Record

Summary

Michael Furrh has broken the world record by hitting a golf ball 576 meters in the air. The record was broken at Rolling Hills Country Club in Arlington, Texas.

I think that Michael Furrh is very good at golf. I think he has done really well.

Horse Dies In Melbourne Cup

Summary

Red Cadeaux was the horse in second place, with Auckland Cup Winner Who Shot The Barman Placing Third. The news of the race was the death of Admire Rakti. It won Caulfield Cup last month.

Opinion

I think that it is very sad that Admire Rakti died. That is not a good way for a horse to go.

Summary

The All Blacks have beaten the United States 74-6. The All blacks scored 12 tries altogether. Sonny Bill Williams  scored 2 of them. Next week the All Blacks face England at Twickenham.

Opinion

I think that the All Blacks did very well scoring 12 tries. I think that Sonny Bill Williams did a very good job too. Next week I think that the All Blacks are going to beat England.

World Record For Longest Continuous Weather Presenting.

Summary

Weather presenter, Eli Kari Gjengedal, broke the world record for longest continuous weather presenting. The record was broken on Norway’s TV2. She broke the record after 24 hours but carried on presenting until she reached a total of over 33 hours. (She was allowed a 5 minute break every hour.)

Opinion

I think that Eli Kari Gjengedal did a great job breaking the record for longest continuous weather presenting. I don’t think I’d be able to do this.

Sydney Roosters vs Bulldogs

SUMMARY

The Sydney Roosters and the Canterbury Bulldogs have both gone through to the NRL Preliminary finals. The Roosters beat the Cowboys by one point after James Maloney got a field goal and the points at full time were 31-30. The Bulldogs beat the Sea Eagles 16-6 and made it in the finals.

OPINION

I think that the Roosters and the Bulldogs are going to have a hard match. I hope the Roosters win because they are my favourite team.

UEFA Champions League

Summary

The UEFA Champions League has got under way this morning with eight games being played. Real Madrid Beat Basel 5-1 in the 1st round then Atletico lost 3-2 to Olympiacos in a close game. Bayern Munich and Manchester City is having a match tomorrow.

Opinion

I think that the UEFA Champions League is going very well with lots of close games. I can’t wait to watch some more of the UEFA Champions League.

Wellington. Cornal Hendricks got the only try for South Africa while skipper Richie Mccaw got the only try for the All Blacks. The All Blacks Have 2 week break before their next game against the Pumas.

A robber was caught during his attempted burglary after he fell asleep. 29 year Don Davis broke into a Florida home. He took lots of jewellery and he put it in a bag but after that he lay down on a bed and had a nap. A cleaning lady found Don sleeping in the house so the lady rang the police and the police came and arrested the robber.

(Opinion)

When I read the story I was laughing because I have never seen a robber take a nap in middle of robbing a house. I hope other robbers take a nap in the middle of robbing too so it could be easy for the police officers to catch them.

New Zealand equestrian rider Andrew Nicholson has won the 2014 Burghley Horse Trials in England. Nicholson’s victory means that now he has won 3 straight Burghley Horse Trials. Nicholson says it’s an amazing feeling.

(Opinion)

I think that Nicholson is an amazing equestrian rider. I never heard of anyone else win three titles from the Burghley Horse Trials. I hope that Andrew Nicholson wins more titles.

Hamish Bond and Eric Murray has won 2 gold medals at the 2014 World Championship held in Amsterdam while single sculler Emma Twigg and the double of Zoe Stevenson and Fiona Bourke both won their first gold medals. At the 2014 World Championships New Zealand has won 9 medals altogether.
